Students listen as the teacher reads the story of Creation in Genesis 1 using a class Bible or online text such as Bible Gateway. The teacher can also use a parallel text such as the Contemporary English Version (used in the Lectionary for Children) to explore the scripture with students. Students review their understanding of the story of Creation in Genesis 1 through activities such as a story probe or story recount.
Students further their understanding of the scripture text through activities such as:
In their groups students combine their images and words to make a group collage or visual of the Creation story in Genesis 2. Students in their groups present their visual image to the class. Students discuss what was similar and different about the visual images that each group created.
As a whole class, students brainstorm what was different about the Creation story in Genesis 2, as compared to the story of the 6 days of Creation in Genesis 1. Students refer back to the visual of Creation made in the launch phase. Students identify which elements of their brainstorm about Creation can be seen in the stories in Genesis 1 and in Genesis 2. Students predict or discuss why the two stories might be similar but different
